Mrs. Mary Burt

Mary C. Powers, daughter of Titus and Elvira Powers, was born near Buffalo, N.Y., April 12, 1851, and passed away June 19, 1944, at the age of 93 years, two months, and seven days.
In 1852 she came with her parents to Ransom, Hillsdale county, where she lived until her marriage to Matthew Burt in December 1869.
They lived on the homestead bought from the government in 1837 by Thomas Burt until 1880 when they purchased the farm a mile south of Hudson. Later they bought a home in Hillsdale where Mr. Burt passed away in February 1924. Mr. and Mrs. Burt were members of the Hudson Methodist church for many years. They were wonderful parents. Six children were born to this union, Elizabeth, Elias, Anna, Kile, Thomas, and James, who passed away in 1902, at the age of eight years. Mrs. Burt spent the latter years of her life with her children, the last three years with Mrs. Elizabeth Anderson in Hudson.
The funeral was held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Dan C. & Rex Brown Funeral Home in Hudson. The Rev. J.D. McClouth of Addison officiated. The burial was in the family lot in Burt Cemetery at Ransom. The bearers were nephews of Mrs. Burt. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Anderson, Mrs. Anna Smith of Hillsdale; three sons, Elias of Adrian, Kile in Addison, Thomas in Tuscon, Ariz. Five grandchildren, a brother, George Powers in Ransom, and a sister in Los Angeles; also several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends from Detroit, Toledo, Blissfield, Hillsdale, Ann Arbor, Byron Center, Adrian, Addison, Jonesville, and Ransom attended the funeral.
