Civil Engineer. His works include the souuthern cantilevers of the Forth Bridge, the Hudson River tunnel, the Blackwall tunnel, the Surrey Commercial Docks, Seaham harbour, the Admiralty harbour at Dover and Valaparaiso harbour. During World War One he served on the Council of the Ministry of Munitions with responsibility for the inventions branch and the purchase of railway equipment.
