"The Gospel Messenger", Vol. 17 #9, September, 1895:

Isaac Stephens was born October 13, 1818, married Sarah A. Pruett on October 11, 1838, joined Mount Pisgah Church, Chambers County, September 6, 1851, baptized by Elder James Mayfield. Ordained as deacon 1869, died July 7, 1895. As a husband devoted, as a father kind and indulgent yet firm in his family government. As a citizen and neighbor none surpassed him; as a Primitive Baptist, unflinching, uncompromising; as a deacon filling the office well. Adhering strictly to the doctrine of Salvation by Grace, and the Scriptures as the only "Rule of Faith and Practice." The disease that terminated his earthly career was dropsy of the heart. A pillar of Mount Pisgah Church has been removed…Thus one by one the old veterans are being carried over the icy river of death to receive their reward.

Written by Elder W. R. Avery, Stroud, AL.

Note: "The Gospel Messenger" had incorrectly labeled this obituary for Isaac Pittman. Also some of the information contained in the article was incorrect, and has been corrected here by referencing the Mount Pisgah Church Record.

Note: Isaac Stephens was also on the Building Committee to plan and oversee the construction of the current Mount Pisgah Church building that was erected in 1884.
