Mrs. John Becker

Mrs. John (Ethel) Becker, 93, Le Mars, who had lived here since childhood, died Sunday (March 1, 1981), at Floyd Valley hospital in Le Mars after a brief illness.

She had lived at Plymouth Manor care center for two and one half years and was hospitalized four days.

Services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic church in Le Mars. Rev. Francis Staber will officiate and burial will be in Calvary cemetery under direction of the Luedtke funeral home in Le Mars.

The Christian Mother's society rosary was recited Monday at 4 p.m. and the parish rosary will be at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Ethel Franklin was born Sept. 29, 1887, at Davis City, Iowa to John and Arvilla McLain Franklin. She came here as a young girl and had since lived here.

She married John E. Becker Oct. 10, 1906 in Le Mars. He died Nov. 25, 1966.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Claude in infancy and three brothers.

Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Venard (Evelyn) Sitzmann, Kingsley; a son, Lee Becker of Le Mars; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Dale Franklin of Ft. Worth, Tex.

LE MARS, Iowa -- Mrs. John E. Becker, 93, longtime Le Mars resident, died Sunday in a hospital at Le Mars of brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Francis Staber will officiate. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.

The rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. today by the Christian Mothers and at 8 p.m. by the parish at the Luedtke Funeral Home.

Mrs. Becker, the former Ethel C. Franklin, was born Sept. 29, 1887 at Davis City.

She was married Oct. 10, 1906, in Le Mars. Mr. Becker died in November of 1966.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Venard (Evelyn) Sitzmann of Kingsley, Iowa; one son, Lee of Le Mars; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Dale Franklin of Fort Worth, Texas.

Becker-Franklin Wedding

Miss Ethel Franklin and Mr. John P. E. Becker, members of well known families in Plymouth county, were quietly married at the priest's house of St. Joseph church last Wednesday morning. The wedding was in the nature of a surprise to their relatives and friends who although anticipating the event, did not think it would occur so soon. The bride was attended by Miss Margaret Gorman and the groom by his brother, Henry Becker.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Franklin, of Marion township, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Becker, of America township.

The young people left for a visit with friends in South Dakota and on their return will live at the Franklin home this winter and in the spring will go farming on their own account.
