Eleanor C. Pearson, 78, United Helpers Cedars Nursing Home, formerly of 426 1/2 Canton St., died at 6:10 a.m. Tuesday at Hepburn Medical Center, where she had been a patient since Saturday.

A prayer service will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Fox Funeral Home followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral with Monsignor Leeward Poissant and the Rev. Euclid Marier concelebrating. Burial will be in Foxwood Memorial Park.

Surviving are two sons, 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a niece, six nephews and several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Two sisters, Mary Chapin and Rita Amo, died previously.

Born Aug. 17, 1917, in Ogdensburg, daughter of Michael D. and Emma Thorpe Callanan , she graduated from St. Mary's Academy and married Willard L. Pearson on Aug. 13, 1937.

Mr. Pearson , an electronics technician and inventor, died March 22, 1992. The couple were separated for many years.

Mrs. Pearson was a religious secretary at Wadhams Hall Seminary College, Riverside Drive for 28 years and, at the time of her retirement in December 1985, was executive secretary to the president.

She had resided at 426 1/2 Canton St. for 55 years before entering the nursing home and was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral parish.
