Opal Mae Anderson Blunk, 98, Chanute, Kansas, died Sunday, April 11, 2004, at Heritage Health Care Center, Chanute, Kansas.
She was born Jan. 16, 1906, in Howard, Kansas, the daughter of Luther M. and Fannie L. (Fear) Anderson.
She entered nurse's training at Johnson Hospital in 1922 and helped at the hospital during World War II.
On March 6, 1923, she married Robert O. Blunk Sr. He died in August of 1985.
She was a bridal consultant and sales associate at C.R. Calvert & Co.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, Antique Club, and Modern Mothers' Club. She was a Safari Museum volunteer. She was president of the Residents Council at Heritage Health Care Center, and started a women's prayer group there.
Survivors include a son, Robert Blunk Jr., Dekalb, IL; two daughters, Patricia Justice, Carbondale, IL, and Nancy McCune Tramel, Lincoln, NE; 10 grandchildren; 15 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Anderson; and a sister, Alice Adams.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 10, 2004, at the First Christian Church, Chanute, Kansas.
A balloon release will be held following the service at Chanute Art Gallery.
Memorials to the First Christian Church, Humane Society, Safari Museum, or the Octave Chanute/Wright Brothers project may be left with the funeral home.
Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel, Chanute, KS, is in charge of arrangements.
