Sir Robert Laird Borden
Birth: Jun. 26, 1854
Death: Jun. 10, 1937

8th Canada Prime Minister. He served as Prime Minister of Canada from 1911 to 1920 as a Conservative-Nova Scotia. He served in the House of Commons from 1896 to 1920, and led the Conservative Party from 1901 to 1920. A teacher and lawyer, he was Prime Minister during the World War I period, asserting Canada's autonomy within the British Empire. Led a Unionist coalition government from 1917. Attended the Paris Peace Talks and signed the Versailles Treaty on Canada's behalf (the first time Britain had not signed for Canada). Though he was knighted himself, he discontinued the practice for Canadian citizens. Pictured on the Canadian $100 bill.
