Augusta Louise (Hoewischer) Stanford

ROBERT F. KETTLER entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at 8:02 P.M. at his residence. He was born on March 22, 1917 in New Bremen, the son of Bernhard J. (Ben) and Augusta (Hoewischer/Stanford) Kettler. On May 10, 1941 he married Betty Weinberg who survives in New Bremen. They enjoyed 68 wonderful years of marriage together.

Bob was a special Dad to his children Diane (Nick) Grilliot of St. Marys and Robert W. Kettler of Columbus, OH. His three grandchildren Nick (Melody) Grilliot of North Carolina, Kris (Bryan) Giesige and Sheri (Scott) Schlosser, both of St. Marys, OH, and eight great-grandchildren will forever cherish his natural ability to be a fun grandpa.

He was the last of his family, being preceded in death by his siblings Paul Kettler, Irene Blanke Ruedebusch, Grace (Ted) Scheer, Donald B. Kettler and Howard "Bud" Kettler.

Mr. Kettler was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in New Bremen.

He was a 1935 graduate of New Bremen High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served with the 787th Military Police in France and England during WWII.

Bob was a mechanic at the former Advance Auto in New Bremen and later retired from Crown Equipment Corp. after 15 years of service.

He was an innovative man who always awed his family and friends with his "Kettler inventions". He always had a passion for cars and photography, and in his later years he enjoyed lapidary. Special memories of being outdoors and camping with Grandpa will forever be treasured by his family. He will be remembered for his positive attitude and good sense of humor. He achieved great success in life because he lived well, laughed often, and loved much. We love you, and you will be missed.

Funeral services: Monday, June 8, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the Gilberg-Hartwig Funeral Home in New Bremen with Rev. William Youngkin officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Lake Hospice or to the church memorial fund.
