ROETTGER, CHRISTIAN
(Died June 28, 1887)

[also spelled Roetcher, Rottcher]

Mr. Christian Roettger, who resides about 5½ miles northwest of here, was thrown from his wagon while he off-loaded hay into his barn on Monday morning and was seriously injured. He wanted to bring back the rope attached to the pitchfork, but the rope suddenly snapped and the reaction hurled him from the wagon. Although Mr. Roettger was in considerable pain, he did not report to the called doctor any serious injury. His condition worsened from hour to hour and he died on Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Roettger had reached the age of about 56 years. He is survived by his wife and many children, several of whom are still young.

During the Civil War, he was a soldier in Company C of the 37th O.V.I. Regiment. The burial took place this afternoon at 2 o'clock at Lock 2 Cemetery. His Company C fellow soldiers accompanied the body as a group and he was buried with military honor. Pastor Buerkle led the funeral service.
