Lloyd D. Paradis, 71, of 1061 Washington St., died at 4:45 a.m. Sunday in the critical care unit at Hepburn Medical Center, where he had been a patient since Friday. He had been in failing health for a year.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Fox Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Moreau, pastor of St. Mary's Church, Potsdam, officiating. Burial will be in Foxwood Memorial Park.

Surviving are his wife, a daughter, two sons, a sister, two brothers, five grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Two sisters, Leola Kirkby and Doris Paradis, and a brother, Bernard "Bud" Paradis, died before him.

Born on Feb. 15, 1924, in Ogdensburg, a son of Albert J. and Jessie Winifred Buck Paradis , he graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1941.

Mr. Paradis served with the Army during World War II in the Pacific theater.

After his discharge in 1946, he returned to Ogdensburg and worked for several different employers.

On Oct. 31, 1950, he married Jean Kirby in Notre Dame Church with the Rev. A.D. Charbonneau officiating.

Mr. Paradis was a letter carrier for the Postal Service for 31 years, retiring Feb. 15, 1979.

He was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers, the American Legion Post 69 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2936.

He was an avid reader, wrote poetry and was an amateur artist, painting the background scenery for the Knights of Columbus's Showtime Productions from 1968 to 1982. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
