George C. Morris, 68, of 805 Caroline St., retired clerk from the Ogdensburg Post Office, died Thursday morning at the State University of New York Health Science Center, Syracuse. He had been ill for two months.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Fox Funeral Home with Rev. Martin Ayer, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Ogdensburg officiating. Burial will be in Foxwood Memorial Park.
Surviving are his wife, Gwendolyn; four daughters, a grandson; a sister, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Two brothers, Robert W. and Stanley A., died before him.
Born in Watertown Dec. 8, 1919, a son of George T. and Lena Macomber Morris , he was graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in the class of 1938 and also served as a member of the Army during World War II.
He married Gwendolyn LaComb of Ogdensburg Nov. 27, 1941, at St. Mary's Cathedral rectory with Rev. Henry McFadden officiating.
The couple lived all their married life in Ogdensburg. Mr. Morris was employed as circulation manager in Ogdensburg for the Syracuse Herald-Journal at the time of his marriage. He later was employed at the U.S. Post Office in Ogdensburg for 20 years, retiring as clerk in 1984.
Mr. Morris was an avid gardener, as well as a member of the Ogdensburg Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
