Gordon J. Mitchell, 70, of 423 Champlain St., died Friday morning at Hepburn Medical Center, where he had been a patient since Monday.
Mr. Mitchell once was employed by Goldstone's Cleaners. He worked at St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center from 1954 until his retirement as senior stores clerk in 1984.
A member of the Merchant Marines during World War II, he served in the National Guard for 18 years.
He enjoyed reading and spending time with his grandchildren.
Born Nov. 7, 1927, at Ogdensburg, a son of Edward and Irene Murray Mitchell , he graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1945. He married Dorothy R. Vine Oct. 8, 1949, at St. Mary's Sacred Heart Chapel with Monsignor Louis Berube officiating.
Surviving besides his wife are a daughter, three sons, a brother, six grandchildren and an aunt, nieces and nephews.
A daughter, Memory Mary, died at birth. Three brothers, Edward, Donald and Billy, also died before him.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Cathedral with the Rev. Joseph Wheelock officiating. Burial will be in spring.
