Keith J. Middlemiss, 63, Hasbrouck Street, died Thursday evening at Thunder Alley Speedway, Evans Mills, where he was stricken while racing.
Mr. Middlemiss worked as a heavy-equipment operator for several area businesses for many years, most recently being employed by Waste Stream Management, Potsdam.
He enjoyed camping on Rideau Lake, watching St. Lawrence University hockey games, hunting, and racing stock cars at local tracks, including Evans Mills, LaFargeville, Frog Town and Adirondack International Speedway. He also enjoyed the companionship of his dogs and 20 years of coaching Ogdensburg Minor Hockey, where he also was on the board of directors. He was a member of Ogdensburg Independent Order of Odd Fellows.
Born March 2, 1941, in Madrid, son of Fay and Nellie Wright Middlemiss , he attended Madrid schools.
He married Shirley A. Scoville in 1958 in Madrid. The couple made their home in Ogdensburg. Mrs. Middlemiss was a homemaker. She died Jan. 20, 2002.
Surviving besides his mother are four sons and two daughters-in-law, three sisters and two brothers-in-law, two brothers and their wives, a companion, 12 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fox-McLellan Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert G. Spratt officiating.
