| Birth: | Jul. 4, 1855 New York New York County New York, USA | | Death: | Feb. 17, 1930 Central Islip Suffolk County New York, USA | Edward graduated from Williams College in 1875. In 1877 he became a partner with Daniel Allen Lindley in starting a commodity firm. That same year he married Daniel's sister, Clara Louise Lindley, on 4 June 1877 in New York, New York. Ten years later, Edward was in financial trouble, not having extricated himself from the commodity markets when he should have. His firm declared bankruptcy in November 1891, despite some help from his noted father, Cyrus West Field. In December of that year, he was declared legally insane and confined to a sanitarium. From 1895 to 1898, he lived at the State Hospital in Buffalo, New York. He died at the State Hospital in Central Islip, New York in 1930, not 1929 as the grave marker indicates. Family sources indicate that Edward incurred an injury in 1866 when he hit his head in a horseback riding accident and this may have been the cause of his insanity later in life. He and Clara had two other children besides those listed below. They were David Dudley Field (1881-1904) and Stephanie Field (1890-1901); their burial locations are unknown. Family links: Parents: Cyrus West Field (1819 - 1892) Mary Bryan Stone Field (1817 - 1891) Spouse: Clara Louise Lindley Field (1855 - 1935)* Children: Cyrus West Field (1878 - 1954)* Edward Morse Field (1880 - 1950)* Woolsey Hopkins Field (1882 - 1939)* Thorold Farrar Field (1884 - 1960)* *Calculated relationship Inscription: Field Edward Morse 1855 - 1929 [death year is incorrect]
