A funeral Mass for Joan A. McDonald, 66, of 1034 Ford St., will be said at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral with the Rev. Terry R. LaValley officiating. Entombment will be in Foxwood Memorial Park.
Mrs. McDonald died Wednesday at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center. She had been ill with cancer since 2000.
She worked for many years at Acco Industries.
Mrs. McDonald volunteered at the Ogdensburg Boys and Girls Club Expo for several years, at Mother Goose Nursery School and at St. Marguerite D'Youville Academy, and was a Girl Scout leader and a member of St. Mary's Cathedral Altar and Rosary Society. She was known as the woman behind Ron "the Candy Man" at area craft shows, well-known for her turtles and fudge. She enjoyed cooking, casinos, vacationing, holidays and her dog.
Born April 18, 1941, in Ogdensburg, daughter of William H. and Bessie LaFirst Spriggs, she graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy.
She married Ronald K. McDonald on June 18, 1960, at St. Mary's Cathedral with the Rev. Phillip T. Allen officiating. Mr. McDonald died May 5, 2005.
Surviving are two daughters and their husbands, two brothers and their wives, a sister and her husband, a stepsister and her husband, two grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Two brothers, Charles and William Spriggs, an infant sister, Anne Marie, and a nephew died before her.
