He also manufactured patent medicines. Abolitionist poet and vice president of the American Anti-Slavery Society. Poems include "Old John Brown" and "A Battle-Cry." Also founded a temperance society in Paterson.

I read two of your poems at the Ivanhoe on 5/30/2012 for the first time in over 100 years. I read "I Would Be Free" and "National Song." They were applauded by the attendees and I was proud to do it. God Bless and keep thee. -
