Elfrieda Mayer, 85, of 202 Washington St., formerly of Heuvelton and Brooklyn, died Tuesday at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center.
Mrs. Mayer and her husband owned and operated Mayer 's Bakery for several years in Brooklyn. She also worked as a stock buyer for A.S. Department Store, New York City.
Born July 4, 1917, in Austria, daughter of Jacob and Katherina Baloh Sirnik, she was a tram driver in Germany during World War II and later operated a cafe in Germany.
She married Andrew L. Mayer on Oct. 30, 1954, at the Chapel of Alte Hofburg, Vienna, Austria. The couple moved to the United States and resided in Brooklyn. The couple moved to Flackville Road in Heuvelton on Nov. 15, 1984. He died Oct. 15, 1990. Mrs. Mayer moved to Centennial Terrace Apartments in 1997.
She was a member of Heuvelton United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Four sisters, Bertha, Frances, Maria and Anna, and three brothers, Hans, Fran and Anton, died before her.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Fox-McLellan Funeral Home with the Rev. Helen Hadley officiating. Burial will be in Foxwood Memorial Park.
