MOUNT HEBRON - Albert Beck, 75, prominent Butte Valley cattleman, died Friday in PIH, Klamath Falls.
Mr. Beck was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Beck in Hildebrand. The elder Beck arrived in the United States from Germany in the 1880s and homesteaded in the Hildebrand area.
Mr. Beck spent his early life on his parent's ranch until World War I when he served with the Army. He returned from service in 1919 and married Elizabeth Vieira in Klamath Falls. The young couple moved to Hilt, Calif., where he worked for a year in a mill and for the railroad before taking a ranch job near Medford.
It was while working on the Medford ranch that Mr. Beck got his start in the cattle business by accumulating a few calves each year. In 1924, the Beck family moved back to Hildebrand.
In 1931 he secured a homestead in the same area.
After selling the second ranch in 1934, Mr. Beck acquired the ranch in the Red Rock country of Butte Valley where the family ahs operated its cattle business since.
In 1964 Mr. Beck was honored by being named "Sisikiyou County Cattleman of the Year," the 10th stockman to receive the honor since its inception in 1955.
In addition to his widow, Elizabeth, he is survived by sons, Howard W. Beck, Mount Herbron, and Irwin A. Beck, Klamath Falls; brother George Beck, Weiser, Idaho; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
