Robert D. Martin, 66, Big Island Drive, Ogdensburg, and Zephyrhills, Fla., died Thursday at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa, Fla.
Mr. Martin formerly was principal of Lisbon Central School.
Born May 21, 1933, in Gabriels, son of Earl and Mae Bean Martin , he graduated from high school at Saranac Lake in 1951. He graduated from Paul Smith's College, Paul Smiths, and served in the Army from 1953 to 1955. He served for 30 years in the Army Reserve with the 310th Field Hospital unit in Malone, attaining the rank of lieutenant colonel. Mr. Martin graduated from Oswego State University College in 1958 and received a master's degree from St. Lawrence University, Canton, in 1966.
He married Dolores Nabozny on June 9, 1956, at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church in North Tonawanda. He taught school for nine years at St. Regis Falls and was principal of Lisbon Central School from 1966 to October 1975.
Mr. Martin was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion in Lisbon. He was on the board of directors of the Community Players before it became Ogdensburg Command Performances. He was also a trustee of Sts. Phillip and James Church and was a member of the Parish Council and the Finance Council.
Mr. Martin was a past member of Lisbon Fire Department and Lisbon Rescue Squad.
Surviving besides his wife are three daughters, a son, a brother, and 11 grandchildren. Another brother, Leander, and a sister, Rita Tucker, died before him.
The funeral, with military honors, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Sts. Phillip and James Church with Monsignor William J. Argy officiating. Entombment will be in Foxwood Memorial Park, Ogdensburg. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg.
