Carol A. Martel , 69, of 1025 Ford Ave., died Sunday morning at her home.
Mrs. Martel was a registered nurse at St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center for 23 years and at Georgia Regional Hospital, Atlanta, Ga., for 15 years. She also worked for various health-care agencies in Georgia, caring for the terminally ill.
She collected Cherished Teddy figurines and enjoyed playing bingo and reading.
Born Dec. 25, 1932, in Syracuse, daughter of Clinton and Alice Ferens Downing, she attended Heuvelton High School and St. Lawrence State Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a registered nurse.
A marriage to Carl E. Martel on Oct. 22, 1954, at Notre Dame Church ended in divorce.
Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, two daughters and their husbands, a sister, a brother, 13 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A sister, Michelene "Mickey" McLaughlin, died before her.
A prayer service will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fox-McLellan Funeral Home, followed by a funeral Mass at 1 p.m. at Notre Dame Church with the Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating. Entombment in Foxwood Memorial Park will be at a later date.
