Came west as a trapper in the 1830s. Poss related to the Elbridge Gerry who signed the Declaration of Independence. He married 4 times, Indian women. Had 4 children with Kate Smith, a half-breed. Established the Gerry Trading post.

Died at age 57.

Because of his warnings to local communities about an Indian uprising that saved many lives, the local natives never stopped harassing him, damaging property and livestock.

Millicent and Millicent Red Kettle are the same person. There is alot of confusion here on who was the mother of who. Elbridge Gerry known as Elbridge Gerry of Weld County, Colorado, married serveral Indian Woman, It was always rumored he married two sets of Twins though not at the same time, the first pair being daughters of Red Kettle, they both had children from Elbridge. After them it is said the Chief Swift Bird gave Elbridge two more daughters, but I think they were either could have been his Neices , Millicent and Minivera, according to records at Pine Ridge Agency, which I have, states Millicent daughter of Fast Whirlwind b.1810 and d. 1870 and Walks Too, died in 1883. Millicent was born 1852 and died in 1909,buried in LaCreek, near Martin,South Dakota. She had three children from Elbridge Lucy/Luta, Charles, and Irene, before leaving him, or being given (Traded too) John Dubray, who fell in love with her while working for Elbridge at his ranch. Dubray took his new family back up to Fort Laramie and then over to LaCreek South Dakota where they settled down on an allottment, and had 4 more children.
I'll write more later when I have more time.
