He was not only a physician, but also a teacher. He married Maria Jerusha Blachly in 1833 by whom he had one son, Henry Spencer Lindley. Maria died on 27 June 1841 and was buried in Upper Ten Mile United Presbyterian Church Cemetery just south of Prosperity, Washington County, Pennsylvania. He married second Mary Ann Wade on 26 July 1842, by whom he had 5 more children: Clark Tartas, Caroline Louise, Lutellus Wade, Frank Moore and Charles Donnell Lindley.
