Ernest Adams Dies at Niece's Home at Age of 82 Years

Ernest Adams, 82, died at 6:45 p.m. Monday [May 7, 1962] at the home of a niece, Mrs. O. L. Clark in whose home he had been cared for during the past 22 months. He had been ill six years.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Methodist church in Tipton, with Rev. Laverne Laing, Baptist pastor of Frederick, and Rev. Cortez Cranfill, Methodist pastor at Manitou, officiating.

Hymns were sung by choir members from Manitou Methodist church with Mrs. Cranfill as accompanist.

Pecinosky's Funeral home was in charge of arrangements, and interment was in Tipton cemetery.

Pall bearers were Herman Thompson, Orval Kelly, Earl Todd, Joyce Hatcher, Tom Boyd, and Darrell Sturgess.

Honorary bearers were D. H. Laing of Frederick, L. L. Cook, Gerrit DeYong, I. B. Huff, Charles Potter, Hubert Todd, B. F. Kirk, J. W. Hatcher, Ellis Shaw, Chase Cough, and Murl Sturgess.

Ernest Adams was born Sept. 12, 1879 at Weddington, Ark., son of John Wesley and Melissa Dickenson Adams. He came with his parents as a small boy to Texas where he was reared. In 1899 he was married at Gladys, Texas, to Miss Jessie Clark.

Adams came to what is now Tillman county in 1901 and had lived since in the Laing community. He farmed until his retirement because of illness. He was a member of the Methodist church.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Ethel Ione Wells of Los Angeles, Calif., two grandchildren, Lynn Taylor of San Diego, Calif., and Bill Taylor of Los Angeles; two great grandchildren; two brothers, Lester Adams of Stillwater and Herman Adams of Tipton; and two sisters, Mrs. Will (Vivian) Young and Mrs. Paul (Pearl Collins, both of Tipton. A son Oris preceded him in death.
