Arthur S. Westgate, 91, of East Granby, passed away on Tuesday (May 26, 2009) at his home with his family.
Born in Fall River, MA on November 25, 1917, the son of the late Ernest and Exelena (Lincourt) Westgate, he was the youngest and last remaining of nine siblings.
He moved to Connecticut in 1953 to take a job with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in North Haven, where he worked as a machinist for 33 years, retiring in 1986.
'Art' was an avid duckpin bowler in the Middletown area until moving to the East Granby/Windsor Locks area where he bowled ten-pin into his 80's. For many years, he participated in Senior Center activities in several towns and particularly enjoyed Bingo and card playing.
Art was predeceased by two wives, Charlotte (Mitcheson) and Sarah Alice (Leather) Westgate. He is survived by his son, Robert A. and daughter-in-law Leona Westgate of Hendersonville, NC; his daughter, Sarah Jane (Sally Westgate) and son-in-law William R. Flynn of East Granby with whom he lived, and three grandchildren: Stephen Flynn of Ohio, Jennifer Flynn of North Carolina and Michael Flynn of East Granby.
His family will receive friends TODAY (Thursday, May 28, 2009) from 5-8 p.m. and on Friday, May 29, 2009 from 9-10 a.m. prior to the services beginning on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Hayes-Huling & Carmon Funeral Home, 364 Salmon Brook Street, Granby.
Burial will be at Simsbury Cemetery, Plank Hill Road, Simsbury.
