Olympic Gold Medalist. She was a pioneer of the then-new Olympic sport of snowboarding. Karine competed internationally for ten years, winning 65 titles at the world cup level, with six world championships. In the 1998 Nagano Olympics, she captured the Gold medal in the giant slalom, following with a Silver in the same event at Salt Lake City in 2002. Retiring after early elimination at the 2006 Turin Games, she was training as a mountain guide, and died in a climbing accident on Mont Blanc. (bio by: Bob Hufford)
