Death: Dec. 15, 1967

John James Ward, 68, well known automotive upholsterer in Pulaski for more than 20 years, died in a Pulaski hospital, after a brief illness, Friday, December 15, 1967. He was born in Grayson County, at Elk Creek, to James H. Ward and wife, Mrs. Nannie Jackson Ward. The Ward family moved to Nebraska about 1910 and the deceased Pulaski resident resided there until about 1936, when he returned to Virginia and established his business here. He and Mrs. Ward resided at 519 South Washington Ave., in an apartment over his upholstery shop, in a building which he constructed himself. He was a highly-respected citizen and conducted a very successful business. He was crippled from birth but, despite this handicap, succeeded in his endeavor for a comfortable livelihood. He drove automobiles especially constructed for driving by handicapped persons such as he. His father and mother returned to their native Grayson County early in the 1920s. He was a brother of the late Glenn F. Ward of Elk Creek, and later of Independence. He was a member of the First Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Marie McFaddin Ward; a daughter, Mrs. H. Landis Albert, Pulaski; five sisters, Mrs. Charles Green and Mrs. Ben Lebbert, Denver, CO; Mrs. Fred Pscherer, Inglewood, FL; Mrs. Oren Adams, Peru, NE, and Mrs. W.E. Davidson, Wytheville and two brothers, Con L. Ward, Fremont, NE, and William R. Ward, Omaha, NE. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 17, at the First Methodist Church. Conducting the services was Dr. Frank E. Trotter, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. Ronald E. Ingram, associate pastor. Interment was in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. The body rested at Thomas M. Seagle and Sons Funeral Home until time for removal to be placed in the church one hour before the services.
