Delayed Birth Record of March 28, 1947 revealed John Edward Coley was born March 20, 1882 in Rock Wood, Roane County, Tennessee. His parents were James Monroe Coley and Emailinee Nicholson. His prof of birth was the 1900 Census when he was 18 years old and his Social Security application of 1936.

John Coley was about twenty-five and Mattie Elizabeth Bates was about twenty-seven when they married about 1907 in Tennessee.

The 1910 census of May 11, revealed John worked for wages as a coal miner and rented their home in District 4, Roane County, Tennessee. They had been married three years, had one child and one still living. John and his parents were born in Tennessee and Nany and her parents were born North Carolina. Household members: John Coley (28), Nany (29) and Clarence (1).

The 1940 census of April 13, revealed John worked for wages as a Check Weighman at the Coal Mine and they rented their home for $6 per month at 3043 14B Street in Cabin Creek, Kanawha County, West Virginia as in 1935. John had a third grade education and Grace had a seventh grade education. John earned $1200 in 1939. Household members: John Coley (58), Grace (41),Bessie (18), Jessie (18), Arnold (15), Joe (14), Johnnie (6), Grace (3) and Bob Monroe (9/12).

The WWII Draft of April 27, 1842 revealed John Edward Coley was born on March 20, 1882 in Roane County, Tennessee, was married and resided in Leewood, Kanawha County, West Virginia. John was employed at Truax Traer Coal Company in Kayford, Kanawha County, West Virginia. John was 5' 8" tall, weighed 180 lbs, had brown eyes, black hair, ruddy complexion, had a scar on his left leg and a scar on his right hand. His contact was his wife, Mrs. Grace Coley of same address.

Death Record revealed James E. Coley was born on March 20, 1882 in Tennessee, was married and a miner. He resided in Sharon, Kanawha County, West Virginia. He died at age 73y. 9m. 14d. on January 4, 1956 in Spencer, Roane County, West Virginia. His parents were James Monroe Coley and Emaininee Nicholson. He was buried in Red Warrior Cemetery.

John lived to age 73.
