Born in Harnett County, Mr. McKinney is the son of Flossie Pace McKinney of Cameron and the late Phillip Raymond McKinney. He formerly owned and operated McKinney's Plant Land in Cameron, NC. Mr. McKinney was a veteran, serving in the United States Army.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Sandra Phillips McKinney, one daughter, Rhonda McKinney Gaster and husband, Nicky, one son, Phillip Dale McKinney, one step daughter, Kathy Long, two step sons, James Dale Coley and Gerald Coley; two sisters, Gail McKinney Fitzgerald and husband, Ed, and Beatrice McKinney Nelson and husband Melvin; two brothers, R. Waylon McKinney and Marvin Leland McKinney and wife, Faye. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Brent Allen Gaster, Megan Elizabeth Gaster and Candace McKinney Ferry.
