Chi Chester Chinn was born in Shelby County, Indiana, the son of Chichester Chinn (1802-1848) who was born in Virginia and died in Fulton County, Indiana; and his second wife Lucy (Bliven) Chinn (1802-1884) who was born in Schoharie County, New York and died in Fulton County, Indiana.
Chi Chester Chinn's lineage goes back from Indiana, to Virginia, to England where the last name was at one time spelled Chynn.
At the age of 21, on March 5, 1850, he married Elizbeth "Eliza Jane" Cummings (1828-1895) in Bartholomew, Indiana. They lived in Indiana until after their first child was born in 1853. Then, they moved to Macon County, Missouri where they had 8 more children. There children were:

Eliza Jane died in 1895 and Chi Chester in 1897 and are both buried at Hopewell Cemetery.
