Verda Terrell, 71, victoriously passed from this life into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, in Valliant, surrounded by her children. Verda Jean (McRo-rey) Terrell was born Feb. 15, 1938, in Dallas, Texas, the daugh-ter of Fritz and Bennie McRorey. She was a resident of Woodmore Assisted Living in Bonham, Tex-as, and was a former resident of Valliant.
Verda was retired and had worked many years for the Southland Corporation in Dallas. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Valliant and enjoyed volunteering with the youth where she attended camp and cooked for them. She had volunteered at homeless shelters and pregnancy crisis centers in Georgia. Verda was a pro-life advocate. She attended nursing school and beauty school and took computer programming courses at Paris Junior College. A courageous breast cancer survivor, she will be fondly re-membered by her family for her beautiful smile and her tre-mendous love for her children, grandchildren and great grand-children.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include one son, Joe and Patty Terrell of Valliant; four daughters, Jeanie and Jimmy Guest of Detroit, Texas, Debbie and Dan Lampard of Ft. Ogle-thorpe, Ga., Rhonda Deere of Austin, Texas, Brenda Terrell and Rick Barnes of California; one sister, Kathryn and David Hodges of Rufe; 10 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, three ne-phews, one niece, the father of her children, Bobby Terrell of Detroit, Texas, along with other family and a host of friends.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, May 7, 2009, from 6-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2009, at the 1st Baptist Church, Valliant, with the Rev. Dan Lampard of-ficiating, assisted by the Rev. Mike Mings. Interment will follow in the Rufe Cemetery.
