On August 14, 1842, Daniel married Philippina Phoebe Katherina Feick in Konken, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. The had seven sons: Daniel (1839); Frederick (1844); Christian (1847); Jacob (1852); Herman (1854); Wilhelm [William] (1857; and Johannes [John] (1859). The first two sons were born in Langenbach, and then Daniel and his family emigrated to the U.S. in 1846, arriving in New York City on August 26th. They proceeded to Lowell, Ohio and began farming. His five youngest sons were born at Lowell.
In 1854, Daniels brother Jacob and his family arrived from Germany and they also took up farming near Lowell. About 1859, Jacob bought forested land near Pleasant Hill in Wood County on the West Virginia side of the Ohio River, and about 1875, Daniel, Phoebe and several of their sons also moved to Wood County, West Virginia.
Daniel died on April 2, 1880 and is buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. After his death, Phoebe lived with sons William and John until her death on December 18, 1910; she is also buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
It is interesting (and confusing!) to note that most of Daniels family changed the spelling of their surname, either to Fouss or to Fouse, and a few to Faust, and even their gravestones reveal inconsistent spellings and perhaps incorrect spellings. The reason for the spelling changes will likely never be known.
