Irwin was one of six children born to Lewis Jackson Craig and Emma Ola Alexander Craig. The other children were: Alton, Tommy, Aubrey, Russell and Ruby Nell.

He married Chloe Flora Lovelady February 28, 1928 in Morgan County.

Well Known Barber, I.C. Craig Dies

Irwin C. (Red) Craig, "Mr. Barber in North Alabama," died Wednesday night at Decatur General Hospital.

Craig, 67, 642 Grant St. SE was barber instructor at Calhoun Junior College Technical School for the past 12 years and was active in the barbering profession for four decades.

He suffered a heart attack several weeks ago.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Guntharp Funeral Home Chapel, Dr. A. B. Van Arsdale officiating, with burial in Roselawn Cemetery, Guntharp directing.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Flora Craig, Decatur; a daughter, Mrs. Russell Sharp, Saratoga, Calif.; a son, I.C. Craig Jr., Tuscaloosa; four brothers, Alton Craig, Exeter, Claif.; Tommy Craig; Moulton; Aubrey Craig, Paducah, Ky.; Russell Craig, Kalamazoo, Mich.; five sisters, Mrs. Bill Palmer, Decatur; Mrs. Nolan Hendrix, Kalamazoo, Mrs. Nadine Rutherford, Mrs. Margaret Jean Fleming, and Mrs. Alex Rutherford, all of Moulton; a stepmother, Mrs. L.J. Craig, Moulton; four grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Doc Hurst, J.A. Jones, H.R. Leeman, Arthur Nebrig, Ernest Roberts and W.C. Vaughan.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of the Central Baptist Church and faculty members of the John C. Calhoun State Technical School

Calhoun President Dr. Carlton Kelley said Craig's death was a great loss for the school and North Alabama.

"He was a dedicated man and did a great job for us," Kelley said, "Mr. Craig built our barber school into one of the best in the southeast."

Hugo Barton, director of the technical school division, said Craig was "Mr. Barber in North Alabama." He has students now barbering throughout the United States. It is a great loss to us here at the school."

During his 12 years at the school, Craig became widely known for his hairstyling shows staged at the college. Barbers from throughout the South participated in the shows.

He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Decatur.

The body will remain at the funeral home.
