Services for Stephen Shore Bass, 92, a Lassen county pioneer, were held Friday afternoon in the White Memorial Chapel under the auspices of the Masonic lodge. Burial was in the Janesville cemetery. He died Tuesday night at the Bass ranch near Janesville. His sons acted as pallbearers.
Born January 9, 1857, at Nelson Creek near Quincy, Plumas Co., he came to Lassen county with his parents by muleback when he was two years old, and settled in Honey Lake valley where he lived until the time of his death.
A county supervisor for district two for 12 years, he was also a trustee of the Janesville school district for many years. A member of the Janesville F. & A.M. lodge for 63 years, he and his brother, the late Edward Bass, Sr., received their 50 year pins in 1936.
Survivors include the following children; Ernest of Arcata, Floyd of Susanville, Martha and Ralph of Janesville, Grover of Standish, Richard of Fallon, Nev., William of Davis, Jay of Hayward; Twenty-one grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; also a sister, Mrs. Minnie Hansen of Janesville, and a brother, Roland Bass of Standish survive him.
