Mrs. Fred Skelton
Called from Earth
Passes away Wednesday night
Funeral Held Saturday; Leaves
Three Small children
Mrs. Fred Skelton passed from life at her home southeast of Cabery on Wednesday evening, May 11, 1911, after and illness of six weeks. She became the mother of a baby girl just six weeks to the day before her death and since that time her life had hung in the balance. Her mind was clouded and she grew weaker in body until death claimed her although for a time she seemed to be some better. The funeral was held from the Cabery Presbyterian church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the pastor, Rev. E. A. Drake officiating. The body was laid to rest in the Clayton Cemetery.
Josephine (Essington) Skelton was born December 27, 1877 and was 32 years, four months and twelve days old at her death. She was born in Rogers Township near Cabery and has spent her whole life in this community. She has many relatives and numerous friends, who mourn her early death. She was always of a quiet, lovable disposition.
Under the pastorate of Rev. George P. Magill, she, in company with her mother and several other members of the family united with the Cabery Presbyterian Church and was a regular attendant until home duties kept her away.
On December 26, 1905, she was married to Frederick L. Skelton and to this union were born three children, Lewis Henry, Albert Harold, and a little unnamed baby girl six weeks old. Her illness was considered serious almost from the beginning and although everything that her loved ones and skilled nurses and physicians, with the help of loving relatives and friends, could do was done, but to no avail and she passed away as quietly as she had lived.
She leaves a sorrowing husband and three little children, her mother, Mrs. Hannah Essington; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Hertz of Bonfield, Mrs. Mrs. Mollie Allison of Buckingham, and Mrs. Hattie Drinan of Cabery; also four brothers, John G., Seth, Charles H., and Samuel, all of Rogers Township, to mourn her death.
The funeral was largely attended, testifying to the heartfelt sympathy that the community extended to the loved ones in their deep sorrow. The relatives from a distance who attended were: Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Allison of Buckingham; Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Hertz and family of Bonfield; Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Essington and Mrs. Sarah Beck of Clifton; Mrs. George Schoon, Mrs. John Reeby and Mrs. Oscar Donley of Cullom; Mr. George Essington and Miss Celia Thompson of Odell; Mrs. Will Bunting of Dwight; Mr. John Clayton of Yorkville and Mr. R Van Cleeve of Plattville.
