She was born January 13, 1923, in Ivy, Virginia, to the late Vernon Dabney Maupin and Susan Gross Maupin.
Lena married her true love Burnlee "Ike" Brown in 1943. This union was blessed with four children.
Lena worked and retired from Comdial where she was fondly called "Granny". She was a very special lady who was devoted to her family and friends. She was especially fond of cooking homemade rolls, fried apples and fried rabbit for her grandchildren and going to yard sales every Saturday morning. She was known for impeccable style of fashion. Lena never wore an outfit unless she had the shoes, earrings and necklace to match.
In addition to her parents, Lena was preceded in death by her loving husband, Burnlee "Ike" Brown; three sisters, Fannie Maupin, Verna Maupin and Mary Maupin Wright; and a brother, William "Bill" Maupin.
Lena leaves to cherish her memory, one sister, Sarah Wilson and her husband, Billy, of Ivy, Virginia; four children, Dora Brooks of Charlottesville, Virginia, Rose Burrell of North Carolina, Vernon Brown of Waynesboro, Virginia, and Sherman Brown of Jarret, Virginia; nine grandchildren, Bridgette Brown, Lavelle Brown, Kimberly Brooks, Raymond Brooks II, Robert Burrell III, Tonya Brown, Natasha Brown, Vernon Brown Jr., and Jermaine Burrell; two sisters-in law,
Bessie Maupin and Geneva Brown; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
At Lena's 85th birthday party in January, she stated, "You might as well have my funeral now because all of my family and friends are here." She and Ike are now in that "Big Yard Sale" in the sky.
A memorial service was held Saturday, August 23, 2008, at the Mt. Zion First African Baptist Church, 105 Lankford Ave., Charlottesville
