Birth: May 28, 1905
Madison County
Virginia, USA
Death: Jun. 8, 1992
Charlottesville
Charlottesville City
Virginia, USA

Mrs. Lila Bell Goodall Smith, of Charlottesville, VA, departed this life on Monday, June 8, 1992 at Eldercare Gardens Nursing Home.

Born May 28, 1905, she was the daughter of the late William and Maggie Strother Goodall of Madison, VA.

She was a member of Free Union Baptist Church in Stony Point, VA, until she moved to Charlottesville. She worked many years housekeeping and caring for children. Overcome by ill health, she has been in a nursing home for the past 9 years, first at Montvue Nursing Home in Luray, VA, and in recent months in Eldercare Gardens in Charlottesville.

Surviving are two daughters Mildred E. Solomon and Juanita Penn of Charlottesville, one son Richard D. Smith of San Diego, CA, 25 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Rosella Smith Hawkins and Sarah Smith Stinnie, and three sons Jessie, William and
Robert Smith.

Though she had not lived at home for a long time, the family will miss her as we recall pleasant memories of her. She was always a very patient and loving woman, especially fond of children. A visit to her tidy home was never complete until she had given the visitor something good to eat.

One of her favorite expressions was yes in-deedy and she spread her love as she referred to many as "Honey Love." She was loved and we will feel the loss of this loving lady. "Yes in-deedy."

NOTE:

Lila Goodall appears on the 1910 census with her family as a 10 year old. She is not on the 1900 census with her family as a baby. Our family always thought she was born in 1905, hence the death year on her tomb stone.
