Mrs. Minnie E. Slagel Barrett, 83, died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the Rest Haven Nursing Home where she had been a patient since April 4, 1961. She had been ill the last two years and bedfast a year. Mrs. Barrett was a native of Huntington County and resident here prior to 1933 and she had lived with her family until 1951. She had lived in Fort Wayne since that time. She was born to Jacob and Christy Ann Winebrenner Eckman March 16, 1879. Her first marriage was to John H. Slagel who died in 1933. Her second marriage was to George E. Barrett February 9, 1951. He survives. Other survivors include five children; Mrs. Lucille Anderson, Kenneth and Russell Slagel, all of Tri Lakes, Hayden Slagel, Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Avanell Shanks, Logansport; a step-son, Arthur Barrett, Fort Wayne; 17 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Letha Whitestine, Fort Wayne. Two brothers, Ross and Charles Eckman, and a sister, Mrs. Clara Hacker, are dead. Member of the First Brethren Church in Fort Wayne. Bailey Mortuary. Rev. Harper Will. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert Slagel, Verl Anderson, Roy Beeler, Bill Shanks, Kenneth Slagel and Rex Slagel. Burial was in the Lancaster Cemetery.
