Birth: Jan., 1837
Perry County
Kentucky, USA
Death: 1918
Perry County
Kentucky, USA

Martha is the daughter of John Roberts and Susannah Campbell. Click to see PHOTO of daughter, Millicent, and mother, Susannah.

She is the sister of Nancy Louis Roberts Allen.

Martha married William David Napier on 10 October 1853 in Perry Co. William's Confederacy Enlistment Date: 1 Apr 1863 at Wolfe Co. KY. Enlisted as a Private in Company E, 14th Cavalry Regiment Kentucky William was killed in the Civil War. Someone was with him called Grant? Roberts. I wonder if he was from Martha Robert's family. William was captured in Winchester, Kentucky and made to walk to Ravenna, Estill Co., Kentucky where he was killed by Union soldiers. They made a sport in killing him by shooting the buttons off his uniform. This Grant? Roberts must have survived the war as the story could not have been passed down. (The name Grant is probably wrong since it could not be found in any records.) They had 5 children, all born in Perry Co.

Abrilla b. 1871

"The following old people are now living in Perry County.... Mrs. Martha Moore, Pad Napier's mother though young, is remarkably well posted, Hazard, 60..." (Age 60. I think that "well posted" means that she knew what was going on in the community.)
Interview with Robert N. Baker, April 1898. Martha was younger than most of the people he wrote about.(Excerpted from Dickey Diary, pages 2238-2243 from reel 3, pp. 2277-8).

Martha Matilda is apparently named after her Aunt Matilda, the wife of Uncle Lewis Campbell.
