Newton McDonald Brown Schrimpshire was the son of William Brown Schrimpshire and Sarah Ann Duckworth. Sarah Ann's great grandfather was Jeremiah Duckworth, a soldier of the American Revolution.
"Newt" was born in Stewart County, GA and can be found there on the 1850 census. His family no doubt moved soon after then. They have not been found on the 1860 census, but Newton enlisted May 1862 in Clarke County, MS as a Private in Company E, 7th Battalion, Miss. Inf. of the Army of the Confederate States of America. He served in that capacity until the end of the War. After returning from War to Clarke County, MS he married Mary Ann Mahala Sikes on 14 March 1867. Mary Ann had previously been married to
Charles Stewart. Mary Ann would present Newton with 7 daughters and 1 son. They farmed and raised their family in Clarke County, MS.
After Mary Ann died in 1919, Newton, now blind,
went to live with his daughter Sara Ann Saleta
Schrimpshire Burt, wife of Louis Alfred Burt, in
Zero, Lauderdale County, MS. It was there they Newton died and his body was laid to rest beside his beloved Mary Ann in Elim Cemetery, Clarke County, MS
