Lyle George Dickerson, age 100, passed away on March 13, 2015 after a short illness. He had been residing at Clark Retirement Community in Grand Rapids since May 2006. Lyle was born May 22, 1914 in Ronald Township to George and Grace (North) Dickerson. He was a graduate of Palo High School and lived for much of his adult life in the Ronald Township and Ionia area.
Lyle was a self-employed farmer for many years and later worked for the United States Postal Service. He was a past member of the Palo United Methodist Church and belonged to the Ronald Grange. Lyle married Marietta Livingston on May 23, 1937. She preceded him in death on April 5, 2006. A brother, Harold, also preceded him in death.
Lyle's hobbies and interests included travel, playing cards, volunteering at church functions and ingeniously improvising when farm or household equipment needed attention. He diligently maintained his yard and cleared out his driveway well into his 90's.
Lyle is survived by his sons, Gary (Pam) Dickerson of Grand Rapids, Weston (Carol) Dickerson of Milford, Edgar (Karen) Dickerson of Waterford; and a daughter, Gayla (Jim) Powers of Spring Lake; 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at the Clark Retirement Chapel, 1551 Franklin, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49506 on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made in care of the Clark Benevolent Care Fund.
