Jean McVeigh Adams, 68 of Wyoming, MI and formerly of Battle Creek died at home on May 6, 2009. Jean was born in Jackson, MI the daughter of William and Ruth (Marble) McVeigh on May 14, 1940.
Jean was raised in Jackson, MI, where she received most of her education at St. Mary's Catholic School. She graduated from St. Philip Catholic High School in Battle Creek and attended Michigan State University.
Jean was employed by the State of Michigan, Department of Human Services Office in Grand Rapids and later cared for the elderly.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Adams and her father. Surviving are her children, Michael (Heather) Casterline of Asheville, NC, Margaret L. Casterline, of Boston MA, Brian (Kathleen) Casterline of Farmington Hills, MI, Karen Melendez of Pago Pago, American Samoa, and Amy (Kelly) Dewar of West Palm Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Quillan Hunt, Zosia and Nora Casterline; her mother, Ruth McVeigh of Battle Creek; four sisters, Patricia (Gerry) Baker of Oak Island, NC, Kathleen (Mike) Coffman of Battle Creek, Ann (Dan) Webb of Kinston, NC, Mary (Barry) Nowlin of Ceresco, MI; nine brothers, William C. McVeigh, Jr. of Montgomery, TX, Michael (Carol) McVeigh of Irvine, CA, John (Nancy) McVeigh of Montgomery, TX, Thomas McVeigh of Tucson, AZ, Joseph (Robin) McVeigh of Battle Creek, Steven McVeigh of Coldwater, Robert McVeigh of Raleigh, NC, Charles (Barbara) McVeigh of Battle Creek, James (Cindy) McVeigh of Scottsdale, AZ; and many great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Jeannie was a unique individual who marched to her own beat. A woman's libber, she marched for equality, worked political voting polls, attended rallies and was a Sojourner Truth Advocate. She thought all people were interesting. Jean was happy with who she was and how she lived.
At the request of the family, a private inurnment will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 18, 2009. A gathering will be held following services.
