George WHITE – 1st Sgt. Co I, 18th Texas Cavalry, Darnell's Regiment. Enlisted 01 Mar 1862 in Dallas Co, TX. He was born 22 Jul 1827 in OH; died 30 Jul 1907 probably in Lancaster. He came to TX from Springfield, IL in 1849 on a steamer from St. Louis to New Orleans, and then walked to Dallas by Feb 1850. He worked as a clerk in the M. M. Miller's General Store in Lancaster; also was an original member of the Odd Fellows Lodge when it was formed in 1874. He also worked at the Pistol Factory. He married 1856 in Parker Co. to Mary J. , who was born 13 Oct 1833 in NY; died 21 Apr 1911 at 1201 N. Peak St. in Dallas, TX of cancer of the breast. Parents of neither George nor Mary J. are known. George applied for a Confederate Pension #A-08283 on 06 Jul 1899 and it was approved. Mary J. drew Pension #A-12800. Double family marker with wife on grave.
