He was the son of Major Isaac Craig and Amelia Nelville. He was born at Fort Pitt. He was a Lieut. 2nd Artillery in the War of 1812. He was a Major of Ordnance in 1832. He was Chief of Ordnance under General Taylor in 1847. He was Colonel of Ordnance from 1851-1861. He retired in 1863. He served at Fort George-Stony Creek, Palo Alto-Monteray and Resaca de Palma.
