All my life I called her Aunt Mattie but on her death bed she told me that she didn't like being called Mattie. Her name is Eula (spelled Ulah in Faries Family Bible).
Aunt Eula had an interesting life. She was born with teeth, so her mother said she would always have bad luck and a hard life.
She was first married to Edward Butts by who she had Marie, Ruth, Edward and Lewis Butts. She and Edward were separated and later divorced. Afterward she became homeless and did indeed lived a hard life. Eula became a Hobo and road the rails.
This hard life ended when she showed up at her sister Bessie's home. Eula cleaned up and lived with Bessie.
After awhile Eula decided to find a job and answered an ad in the newspaper for a housekeeper. The ad read, "Will Marry."
Eula arranged to take the train to Baltimore and wore a flower as was prearranged. Troy Cantrell picked her up at the station, then to the Justice of the Peace. They went to his home, a Windmill on the estate where he was the 24 hour guard. The estate was called the "Cloisters" in Brooklandville, MD.
This estate was a castle built with several medieval buildings. At that time, no one lived there. The woman who owned it gave me my first tour of the Cloisters when I was very young. It was a museum covering artifacts from the middle age to the 18th Century. Paintings, tapestries, Silver, gun, etc.

Troy and Eula retired and moved to Pulaski, VA.

Eula Mattie was my Aunt that lived in the Windmill.
