Lydia was the first of three children born to Lydia J. Judd and Omri T. Long. Her mother died following birth of the last child and the family disintergrated. No doubt in deep depression, Omri went off on his own, quasi-abandoning two little girls and the baby. The baby was taken in by Omri's parents. Lydia and her sister were raised by their Great Aunt Rachel and Uncle Henry Judd who had also raised their mother.

Lydia married John D. Patterson about 1 Oct 1901 and they had seven children: Pearlie, Violet, Mike, Marguerite, Sam, Muriel and Jim.

ASIDES: After the death of Henry Judd, Lydia's Great Aunt Rachel resided in the Patterson household for many years.

Lydia undoubtedly maintained contact with her father over the years of her early life. Omri Long had returned to Lucas County by 1920, and the 1930 census reveals him living with his widowed daughter and children.
