Dorothy "Dolly" Grace Bauer was welcomed into heaven early Easter morning, April 12, 2009.
Dolly was born Dorothy Grace Dunn on May 31, 1922 in New York City. She was one of seven children. Her mother cared for their large family by herself after the untimely passing of their father.
Dolly married George Bauer on May 13, 1944. They were about to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary in May. Dolly and George were blessed with five sons and Dolly never let anyone forget it. She was extremely proud of her boys. Whenever she met someone new, almost the first words out of her mouth were, "I had five boys." She was also a mom to her nephew who came to live with the family during his high school and college years. Her wish for daughters was fulfilled when she was blessed with two granddaughters in whom she took great delight.
Dolly was also quite a world traveler, due to George's career in the military. She saw many exotic places such as Crete, Turkey, France, Germany and Alaska. They also spent time in some less glamorous spots like Rapid City, South Dakota. But it didn't matter to Dolly where she lived as long as she had her family with her. They finally settled in Battle Creek, where Dolly was a devoted member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Family was Dolly's number one priority. It didn't matter how cold it was or if it was raining or snowing, she came to every single school sporting event to cheer on the Springfield Rams and her "Bauer Boys". Every friend of her boys was like one of her own. They were always welcome at the Bauer house. Whether it was people from church or the varsity football team, she made sure that no one ever left her house hungry or without at least "a nice cup of tea."
We hope that when you think of Dolly, you smile, because that is what we will be doing and we know that is what Dolly would have wanted.
Family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2009 at Shaw Funeral Home. Services will take place 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16, 2009 at the funeral home with Rev. Fr. Craig Lusk, St. Joseph Catholic Church, officiating. Interment, Fort Custer National Cemetery.
Memorials may go to American Heart Association or Alzheimer's Association.
