Wolgast, Gerald Henry Saginaw, Michigan Died peacefully in the loving circle of his family. Gerald was born June 24, 1921, and was a native of Hemlock where he grew up working on the family farm during the Depression. He served on Shore Patrol in the US Navy during World War II, and through his own initiative and in following his dreams, learned carpentry and brick-laying. He started his own masonry contracting business after World War II that eventually grew to become Wolgast Corporation, with three of his sons and their devoted employees. Gerald loved the out-doors, especially birds, trees and flowers. He was a member of the Fr. Neuman Council #2291 Knights of Columbus and served as Grand Knight in 1957. He was also a member of the Hemlock Lions Club, and both St. Mary Catholic Church, Hemlock, and Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Saginaw. He had a generous spirit and believed in always giving back to the community. Nothing made him happier than a job well done. He traveled with his wife Patricia, and they enjoyed summer homes in both Higgins Lake and Petoskey. Gerald was the beloved husband of Patricia (Naessens) Wolgast for 62 years, and the loving father to Lynn Wolgast and wife Beebe, Patrick Wolgast and wife Gail, Darla Wolgast Romano and husband Richard, and Ann Denise Wolgast-Sabo and husband Denny. Gerald was preceded in death by three sons, Kevin, Daniel and Mark Wolgast, a grandson, Matthew Wolgast, and a brother, Norman Wolgast of Kalamazoo. He is also survived by daughters-in-law, Karolyn Wolgast Goslin and her husband Craig, Sue (Wolgast) Kemerer and her partner James "Toby" Garno; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; also his brother, Vincent Wolgast and his wife Wilma, Hemlock, and his sister, Elaine Preuss and her husband Martin, Midland; many nieces, nephews, and their families. Funeral Liturgy will take place 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Road. Rev. Fr. David Parsch will officiate with burial in St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may call at the W. L. Case & Company Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road, from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. on Friday, and then at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Lutheran Home Care Hospice of Hope or Holy Spirit Catholic Church.
