Son of Horatio and Louisa (Fisk) Hammond.

Richmond Fisk Hammond began military service as a private in Company E 17 Ills Vols on 26 May 1861 at Galesburg, Knox County, Illinois.1 He ended military service on 21 August 1861 at Missouri.1 He began military service in the 1st Illinois Cavalry Volunteers on 1 March 1862.1 He ended military service on 14 July 1862 at St. Louis, Missouri.1

He enlisted as a private in Company H of the 102nd Infantry on 26 July 1862.12 He began military service on 29 September 1862.1 He served served in Company D 14th Regiment Illinois Cavalry.13,11,1 He was was captured near Atlanta, Georgia and taken as a prisoner to Andersonville on 5 August 1864.13,14,1 He ended military service on 16 June 1865 at Springfield, Illinois.1

Richmond Fisk Hammond was member of Lewis Post No. 294 G. A. R. serving as O.D. On 9 January 1890 at Dodge City, Ford Co., Kansas.22 He was a member of the Grand Templar Lodge serving as Sentinel on 25 March 1892 at Dodge City, Ford Co., Kansas.23 He Commander of Lewis Post, G.A.R., has been appointed an aide de camp on the Staff of the National Commander of the G.A.R. On 9 December 1892.24 He was member Lewis Post No. 394 Grand Army of Republic having served as a seargeant in the Illinois cavalry in 1894 at Dodge City, Ford Co., Kansas.25,26 He purchased land being lots 11 and 12 in block 18 on 4 August 1908 at Dodge City, Ford County, Kansas.27
He was on list of petit jurors on 13 November 1888 at Dodge City, Ford Co., Kansas.19 He was presented an essay on "The Profits of Sorghum for Feed and Syrup" to the Ford County Agricultural Association on 8 March 1889 at Ford County, Kansas.
