History - On November 14, 1836, six months before the Prophet Joseph Smith commissioned Elders Kimball and Hyde to open the British Mission, Eleazer King and his family were baptized members of the Church in Kirtland, Ohio. On the same day Patriarch Joseph Smith Sr. gave Eleazer his patriarchal blessing.
Eleazer King, the son of John and Sarah Hawkins King of Williamstown, Berkshire, Massachusetts, was born on October 11, 1784. He married 16 year-old Nancy Fowler also of Williamstown on May 24, 1804. Nancy, the daughter of Marvis and Phebe Manter Fowler, was born March 31, 1788. On May 7, 1821 in Bloomfield, Ontario, New York, Eleazer and Nancy gave birth to their eighth child, a son, whom they named Enoch Marvin.
The King family experienced the trials and tests of the Ohio, Missouri, and Illinois periods of the early Church. Nancy died in Nauvoo on November 8, 1845. Eleazer crossed the plains, fought in the Black Hawk War, and died at age 69 in Spring City, Sanpete County, Utah, May 14, 1854.
