Abram "Abe" E. Althouse, aged 96 years, of Ephrata, entered into rest on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at his beloved home. Abram was born in Clay Township to the late Charles S. and Elsie (Eberly) Althouse.

He studied at the Pennsylvania State University and served a druggist training apprenticeship at H. L. Cox Pharmacy in Ephrata. He was later employed by Kerr-McGee Chemical Corporation in Oklahoma City, OK for 31 years and served as their Agricultural Division's Territorial Manager.

Abram was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ephrata. He was also a member of "Friends of Eberbach" and lasting friendships developed after several trips to Germany.

He was very proud of his 63 year association with the Masons. Abram was a 320 Mason and member of Blue Lodge 665 F&AM in Ephrata (Master in 1957). He was also a 50 year member of the Lancaster Lodge of Perfection, the Reading Consistory and the Rajah Temple Shrine.

As a violinist, Abram was a member of the Franklin & Marshall and Elizabethtown Colleges' symphonies.

In addition to his wife, Joy, he is survived by two daughters: Janet, wife of Mack Fisher and Kay L. Althouse, all of Ephrata; one granddaughter, Patricia Zerphy; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandsons; a brother, Chester E. Althouse of Elizabethtown; a sister, Helen S. Taylor of Clinton, Utah; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Abram was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Arlene (Hessie) Althouse; grandson, Tom Fisher and step-daughter, Marty Johns.

Masonic services will be held at Gravenor Home For Funerals, 100 W. Main St., Ephrata, Pa. on Sunday, May 17, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. Friends will be received on Sunday from 2:15 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 167 E. Main St., Ephrata, Pa. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Henry E. Herbener and Chaplain Glenn Beard, Jr. officiating. Interment will held at Middle Creek Brethren Cemetery, 35 Middle Creek Road, Lititz, Pa.
